Sunflower Keep looking toward the light
The sunflower reminds us that we do not have to create our own light. We can keep turning our hearts toward God and trust Him to provide what we need for the next step.
A young sunflower bud moves with the sun as it travels across the sky. Later, when the flower matures, it settles facing east, ready to receive the morning light. There is something tender in that picture. The sunflower does not produce the light it needs. It simply keeps turning toward it. We may not always know how a difficult season will unfold, but we can choose where we will keep looking. Faith does not require us to manufacture our own answers, strength, or hope. It invites us to turn again toward the One who already holds them.
About This Flower
The common sunflower, Helianthus annuus, is a tall annual plant native to North America. What appears to be one large flower is actually a flowerhead made from many tiny flowers. The outer ray flowers form the familiar golden petals, while the small disk flowers in the center grow in beautiful spirals and later produce seeds.
